I unpacked everything Tuesday night & was reasonable well sorted but was shattered - too tired to even have a prosecco! But when I got to bed my mind was still racing, the excitement of being here & what I had forgotten. Only one thing - the lead to charge my camera batteries, quite important really.
Wednesday morning I was out with my list of things I needed & started seeing changes:
One of the embarcadero cabins at plank stop had gone & now there was a barrier to get through before getting into the one remaining. Then gaining to have a cafè at Gino's bar - I've enjoyed going there from my first stay. Walking down the calle I noticed changes, the curtains & posters were one, on entering it was all different including the staff. OK, but lost it's personality, I could have been anywhere.
Thankfully Phuvio was still at the Accedamia news stand & we had a great catch up.
Amazingly I found an electrical shop that stocked the cable I required.
Called at another bar I have frequented all the years I've been here, Tony poured the prosecco as I walked in. I thought OK it's one o'clock. Then I looked again at my watch & it was only Noon! I will be drinking prosecco at 10am soon.
Lunch sat outside on the Grand Canal then a walk bthrough the Piazza to get the vaporetto back home.
Wonderful first day.
Here are my purchases..... I also bought a small sieve so that my coffee grains don't block the drain, a shower cap, thought I had one here, a blender so now I can make soup & picked up the what's on in Venice book.
The 12 o'clock prosecco!
Selfie having lunch at the Biennale bar on the Grand Canal with San Giorgio behind me. I had coffee & toast - no more wine.
