Mogliano Veneto

Last Thursday Daniela, who I met at the Venice Ladies Lunch invited me to joint the Treviso International Ladies for their meeting last Thursday.   I was on the train to Treviso & Daniela & her colleague Lily got on the train in Mogliano.  The ladies shared events that were going on around the Veneto, exchanged hints and tips of living in Italy and then a member who worked in Paris for UNESCO told us of the origins & work of the organization.  Unfortunately she wasn’t the most engaging of speakers.  I have been asked to go when I am in Italy next year & have offered to speak to them.  Will have to think of a subject & prepare it.

Daniela's language school

On our way home Daniela asked me to visit her on the following Monday in Mogliano Veneto to see her language school, have coffee & look around the market.  The town is only 20 minutes by train from Venice.  The forecast was rain, but it was a beautiful, warm, springlike day.  Joyful.it is a wonderful, relaxing learning space and Daniela takes her students out into town, has treasure hunts in Venice and makes learning Italian fun.  Her courses last one week and I think I should sign up for one next year!

With mimosa in the market

We sat outside and drank coffee and chatted.  Daniela is pregnant and her blood sugar is high so I was telling her about how successful I had been reducing my sugar level with  the low glycemic index diet.  Then we walked around the market and looked at the Stucky Villa, now a Hilton hotel.  The Stucky were a wealthy Venetian family whose warehouse is now the Molino Stucky Hilton Hotel on La Giudecca.  The family had their summer villa here and it’s beautiful, maintained it’s character and lovely gardens.

Delicious cakes in a shop - didn't buy any!

The three of us had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant called La Fenice.  You can see my wonderful plate of carciof, melanzane, pomodoro, fennuccio, zuccini, etc, etc.
