Vec Makropulos

Yesterday afternoon I went to the dress rehearsal of the Janacek opera Vec Makropulos.  Joyce Fieldsend a friend who is a repetiteur and has been working with the cast gave me a ticket.  Elaine made lunch for us all before we went to La Fenice.  Our box was in the centre on the third tier - wonderful.  Joyce had given me a synopsis of the opera over lunch and there were english subtitles to follow the story which was very complicated.  The heroine had lived for 347 years and was putting to an end the feud between two families, one was her son.  There are no big chorus numbers or arias, it's dialogue between the cast and the acting was wonderful.
