This morning, Friday I met Liz at the Sacca Fisola market. We begin always with a drink in the bar. This morning we took ages to be served we couldn’t understand why we were being ignored. We sat ages at one of the few tables chatting. On our way out I said maybe it was because we take up residence there for so long!
We moved along to a new stall €1, it had a great selection of all manner of items & Liz was trying to grab doilies which kept being thrown away from us. Then we got to the San Erasmo vegetable stall and bought wonderful fresh things. Even the trader thought Liz was buying too many cauliflowers! Finally it was to Walter’s cheese stall. Once again other ladies were served ahead of us but we decided Walter wanted to have time to chat to us. he likes to practice his English. He told us in his class they read the Daily Mirror. We also got another recipe, last weeks raddiccio, gorgonzoa & proscuitio I told him was delicious. Mrs Walter laughed when I got out my notebook to write it down. Bressola, gorgonzola then roll, oil & roll in sesame seeds. Refrigerate. Delicious in hot weather when you want lighter food. On that reason I will never make it at home.
Finally we got away & decided we had become a couple of Italian mama’s taking so long to shop. On my way home I called at the salumeria for some marscapone & Maria wanted to sell me gorgonzola too. I bought it from her before I got to the market. I felt honour bound to purchase a second cheese.
All these goodies, along with the chicken and salmon, cooking as I write are for Liz and Geoff who are coming to dinner tomorrow.
Liz below at the veg stall.
Walter preparing my cheese, a new one to me it has a nutty flavour.
